That's So 70s: Jaunty Jumpsuits - Part 6!

$

Have you ever noticed that when anyway has a "Disco" themed retro party, there are going to be jumpsuits.  No, no, not the kind that pilots use, the kind you can get down and "boogie, woogie, oogie to the best of those 70s disco tunes.  So get out yer disco balls and get ready to party - in jumpsuits, no less.

Well these gals don't look that they're ready to disco to me.  Kathy is all smiles that all green jumpsuit.

Apparently the gentleman prefers the lady in the jumpsuit.  And why not?  It looks like everyone is ready to hit the discotheque tonight!

Jumpsuits and cleavage, a winning combination!

Like I said!!

Hmmm, not sure this is very disco like here.  It looks more like an elegant garden party.  I guess that would be the best place for a "poncho jumpsuit" like the one worn by Kathy.  (pic courtesy of Blue Senshi, Thanks!)

Another garden scene?  What happened to the discos?!?

Oh boy, this post is going downhill fast.  Where's boogie woogie disco spirit?!?

Another outdoor jumsuit scene?  And this time it's Karen holding some flowers??  What the heck.  I was ready to party, but these gals seem to think that jumpsuits were for contemplative walks in nature!  Huh?!?  Perhaps Kathy and Colleen can get get us back in the spirit....

Nope, unfortunately not.  Still Kathy, Colleen, and Karen look great in these jaunty jumpsuits, and they COULD be used in a disco also.  So I have to say "That's Soooo 70s!"

When Life was Groovy, Part 5 - Spring Dresses!

And nothing, NOTHING made live groovier than those wonderful Spring dresses from from those wonderfully groovy Big Book catalogs.

Sigh, those were the days my friend!!

This post is going to be heavy on the Spring dress in Spring settings with Springily gorgeous models like here with Kay, Kathy, and Karen.

Or here with the other Kathy (Jackson) and Colleen......

...or here with Shelley.  Heck we're just getting started and I'm ready for Spring for sure now!!

I've seen these patterns before, Where oh where,...OH!! I know.  I've seen them in hhall carpets in motels.

For the animal spirit in you.....

Karen has got that "Yeah, I'm killing it" look.  And why not?  She is!!

Hmmm, in the big pic, Wendy is in white and Kay is in black.....BUT in the inset pic, it's reversed. That must have been one interesting wardrobe change........................Oh wait.  Sorry about that.  My mind wandered a bit there.

"Hey Karen, over here, it's me, remember?" How embarrassing. I got rejected for a bird.

There is nothing to say here except "Dang that;'s groovy!!"

No, no I don't.  NOBODY could ever have enough dresses like these.

"Hey girls, Hey, it's me.  Hey over here!" Drat, now they don't even need a bird to not notice me!!

Spring dresses didn't just come in the short variety.  No, no, no!  They were long and elegant also.

Hey!  How'd a pantsuit sneak in a post about dresses?  Despite that, Pam and Kathy look quite fetching in their "man-tailoring" outfits.  Sorry, didn't work.  Both are still looking very feminine.

Speaking of feminine, Jane and Kathy are certainly that and more!!

A perfect way to end this post.  Kathy in an elegantly long Springtime dress standing next to a......giant potted plant.  Oh well.  They should have stuck to the outdoor park scenes instead!

Random Weirdness: It's Time for MANTIQUE!!

WARNING!! The following material depicts scenes of extreme 70s fashion weirdness.  It may not be suitable for younger or more sensitive readers....

Ladies and Gentlemen, loyal readers, and guests, I bring to you what may very well be the most randomly weird, most groove-ily awesome examples of extreme 70s fashions.

IT'S TIME FOR MANTIQUE.......(1)

Be forewarned that what you are about to see will elicit gasps of disbelief.  Once these images are seared into your mind, they will not be easily erased.  So, if you dare, get comfortable, fix a stiff drink (you're going to need it), and proceed forward.....

IT'S TIME FOR MANTIQUE.......

And nothing says MANTIQUE quite like long tunic vest.  I'm sure these guys were the coolest cats in the club!  What?!?  You were expecting the normal collection of hot 70s babes??  Sorry.  The ladies have been given the week off.  These awesomely cool man fashions deserve a post of their own.  In other words......

IT'S TIME FOR MANTIQUE.......

And nothing says MANTIQUE quite like crushed velvet leisure suits.  Oh wait, I though it was the tunics that said MANTIQUE.  So many choices!!!

Kay appears to be none too pleased about this shocking change for the Kathy Loghry Blogspot. (2) Well, that's too bad, because......

IT'S TIME FOR MORE MANTIQUE!!

"But I don't want to wear a puffy shirt!!" Sorry, puffy shirts are mandatory in MANTIQUE world!!

That's the look that says "Yep, I'm gay."

Yes indeed!  The MANTIQUE man certainly knows his fashion! After all one can never have too many leisure suits!

Words .Escape. Me.

Saturday Night Fever had nothing on MANTIQUE fever.  And I don't know what to make of that look by the guy on the right.  Perhaps he's scoping out that guy in the puffy shirt.........

This seems pretty tame by Mantique standards.  Oh wait, it's not part of the Mantique collection. That explains that!

What sort of man is a MANTIQUE man? Whether he's killing it in long tunics or crushed velvet leisure suits, he's always in style.  No matter what the season, he always has his babe at his side (except for that guy in the fifth pic, that's another story.)  He's a man confident in who he is and what he wears.  He is a MANTIQUE man!

I'm sure that by now many of my loyal readers are asking "Okay, these Mantique fashions are pretty awesome.  But HOW awesome??  Is there a way to measure that?"

Well yes, yes there is.  Remember our AI post from a couple of weeks ago?  Let's take that first pic and run it though the awesomeness meter.....

EveryPixel.com says that MANTIQUE is 88.9% Awesome.  So its not as awesome as those pictures of Kathy and the gang, but pretty gosh darn AWESOME!!

footnotes:

(1) After putting this post together it dawned on me that perhaps I had the pronunciation of  the word Mantique wrong.  I originally assumed a Spanish pronunciation: man-TE-kay.  But perhaps it is French and is man-TEEK (rhythms with boutique.)  Either way, it's cool.

(2) Was Kay in every freaking catalog during the 70s?!?

K Club Special, Part 34 - The K Club

Well now.  After that bizarre and unexpected turn in the history of this blog last week with the Men of Mantique, it's time to return to our main them - the Big Book catalog models of the 70s.  The ladies that is!!  Sorry guys, after last week, we won't be seeing much of you for a long, LONG time (hopefully.)

So what better way to cleanse our minds of  Mantique Madness than with a K Club special that focuses on, well, the K Club!! (1)

Kathy and Karen!  What a duo!! And that is what we are going to do in this post - duos of all the famous K Clubbers!!

What an incredible pic of Karen and Colleen!!  Although I'm not too sure what they are looking at over there?

And now the duo of Karen and Kay!  Hmmm, it seems that this post is a series of match ups of all the K Clubbers!

Boy Cut Jeans??  Kathy and Colleen would never be mistaken for boys.

Nope, never....

So now we move on to Kay and Colleen. Tweed look sweaters never looked so, well, tweedy good!!

And that deserves a closeup!!

So we've had pics of Kathy and Karen, Colleen and Karen, Kay and Karen, Kathy and Colleen, Kay and Colleen.  So, we only have one combination left!

Kay and Kathy!  That will make a complete set of duos of the K Club!!  Hey wait, isn't that Kathy in the inset pic??

Yes it is !!  And that's a great way to end this post on the K Clubbers!! Thank goodness, that crazy  Mantique nonsense is but a distant memory........wait, what's that I see....surely not...        wait........Oh Hell No!!

Arrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!

footnotes:

(1) For all readers that are new to this blog, the "K Club" is a nickname for four of the most popular Big Book catalog models from the 70s: Kathy Loghry, Karen Bruun, Colleen Corby, and Kay Campbell. main models of the 70s.

Bodysuits - Part 11, Yeah Baby!!

Okay, okay, we've had fun with the Men of MANTIQUE for the last couple of weeks.  Sooooo, everyone close your eyes, cleanse your mind.  Now open them and scroll down..........

YES!  Bodysuits are the answer, the answer to finally, FINALLY getting this blog back on track where it should be!  Kathy and friend are all smiles as there is no sign of Mantique Madness anywhere.  But that raises another quesiton.  Where did this pic come from?  Well, dear readers, THAT is for another time!

Good Lord  Karen, Diane, and Kay are, well, smoking hot in the bodysuits!

 And the bodysuit hotness continues!!

I really don't know what to make of this pic, except the gal in the upper left appears to be enjoying her bodysuit maybe a bit too much (I'll have what she's having!)

What a shame, what a shame.  This pic is good, but it could have been great except for the black and white.

Shelley, Mick, and Pia get in on the hot bodysuit action!

And now for our second mystery pic.  This time of Colleen.  I have no idea here this pic came from.

But we have one mystery pic solved.  Longtime readers of this blog may remember that way, WAY back at this blog's inception I had a post of a Mystery pic that was just the faces of Kathy and Karen from this Photo.  Now the mystery is solved!!

Now for the closeups.  I like Karen's sense of style here!!  Forget the mini skirts, just wear a bodysuit!!

And a very nice pic of Kathy and Karen to end this post on.  Maybe on the next bodysuit post we'll solve teh mystery of that first pic.  Until then, Ciao!!

That's So 70s: Say Yes to the Dress - Part 6!

Yep, the wedding season is upon us.  And as I mentioned in the last post on 70s weddings, one of my daughters is going to be the MOH at her friend's wedding in about, oh crap, it's next weekend!! And I don't have a THING to wear!  Not to worry, these 70s (and 80s) Bride's magazines will give us plenty of help!

Well maybe they will be of help.  After all, this was the era of the Big Floppy Bridesmaid Hats (BFBH for short). (1)

Need I say more, BFBH galore!

This bridesmaid is like "Okay, whatever, you're getting married before me, so what.  That's no reason to make me wear this dress."

And when the brides didn't force their wedding party to wear the BFBH, they made them wear something equally weird - like pill box hats.  All I can say is "That's Sooooo 70s!"

Okay, this is getting just bizarre at this point.  Both the women are looking down on the girl thinking "Yes, little one, you will be scarred for life."

Oh dear, this post is really going off into the deep blue end here!  The expression on the little girl's face is screaming "Why, why, why..."

Speaking of the groom's party, I need some ideas for next week's wedding....
Apparently the ruffled shirt, lavender tux look was all the rage back then.  This lucky guy has two babes scoping him out.  However, I'm not sure this would work for me (Don't want to upstage the bride, ya know!)

Of course, the guys back then (like now) are less about the wedding itself, and more about the honeymoon...

Well, maybe not this guy.  This is simply cringe worthy: he's leaning in, shes leaning while avoiding the direct kiss. Her expression is saying "Loser." Basically his only purpose in her life is to be something to grab in case she starts to fall over the side of the boat.  I think the honeymoon is already over for this guy!

Now this is how's it done!  Frustrated Boat Guy could learn a thing or two from this Smooth Operator!

Yeah, uhh, right.  The most important consideration is the mattress.  Of course if its Frustrated Boat Guy, then it doesn't matter - he's probably sleeping on the couch anyway!

Confession time here dear readers.  I kind of messed up.  I should have done this post about a week earlier. Oh well, better late than never......
Yep, that's our Kathy.  No BFBH here!!  And that is Karen Welch and Wendy Hill. (2)

footnotes:

(1) Pic is courtesy of Blue Senshi, Thanks.  And, BTW, it is from 1982, very late in Kathy's modeling career.

(2) I really debated whether to include this or not.  I have a policy of only posting items that are of a commercial or professional nature (no personal photos.)  However, this did appear in a Modern Bride magazine, so it's fair game (I hope!)

Great Expectations - Part 6!!

"First comes love, then comes marriage (last week), and then comes baby in a baby carriage (this week.)"   But with the Big Book catalogs of the 70s you could spend that "special time" in style!

And  there we see how the gals of the 70s spent that "special waiting time".  All smiles here.  Except, what is Kathy doing in a wig?!? This isn't a wig post??

Hey, that's much better!!

Ahh, no post on maternity wear would be complete without the timeless and classic "tent dress." No way these models can make THAT look sexy!!
Well, I stand corrected!!

Whaaat? Another maternity pic of Kathy in a wig??

A random maternity pic, it isn't even randomly weird, just random........

You KNOW why I included this pic. Yep, the hat - gotta love that hat that Kay is sporting.  BTW, it sure seems that Wendy Hill is in a lot of these maternity pics?!?

Matching hats, shoes, and purses. Remember ladies - accessorize.  That's the key to a successful pregnancy!

Oh come on!  Nobody is this happy when they're pregnant.  Well maybe they would be if they were stepping out in these groovy 70s style.  And in case you're wondering: Yes, Kay's left hand is sporting a wedding band.  Remember that this was the 70s and like we said at the top "First comes love, Then comes marriage, Then comes baby in a baby carriage.  (Of course the other model is hiding her left hand, so we're not sure is going on there!)

Just so there's no doubt about it!!

Let's Get Into Physical Part 6, Summertime Fun!

Now that Summer is here, I present to you, dear readers, the teeniest, tiniest pics of Kathy in my collection..

Just in time for Memorial Day beach fun, His 'n Hers Fun-in-The-Sun separates from JCP (circa 1978, which was a VERY good year for me.) (1)

So your probably saying to yourself "Hey where's Kathy?" Well if you blinked you'd miss it.  Let's zoom in on that hot beach volleyball scene....

Yep, it's her!  I had this catalog for some time before I noticed this myself.  I have two questions: Where was this shot at (mountains in the background), and, more importantly, why wasn't I invited to play too?!? (2)

The "Apres Le Volleyball". Everyone seems to be a winner here!  Hmmm, on second thought, this would have made a good Michelob commercial!

footnotes:

(1) My first year in college and my first steady girlfriend, fond memories, good times!

(2) I don't mean to, ahem, brag, but I will (it's MY blog after all!)  V-Ball was my sport, played with a select club, had dreams of making it big, but had to focus on school instead.

(3) Yeah, yeah, this post is kind of short, but I'm traveling this weekend.

Let it Rain - Part 6!!

$

Well it's teh rainy season, and just because raindrops are dropping on your head doesn't mean that you couldn't step out in those groovy 70s style!!

Kathy starts us off with rain slickers made of something called "nylon cire." It's basically a fancy term to describe something with a glazed look.

All weather coats from Aldens was actually an excuse to show off your groovy go-go boots!

Not only boots, but fake leather, personalized handbags too!!

And not only boots and handbags, shower-to-shine scarves too!!

Whoops, back to Kathy and the cire!  Despite no boots, no scarves, or no handbags Kathy is all smiles (as usual.)

Is this turning into a cire post?!?  These two jetsetters certainly think so.

All I can say here is Shower Togs, YEAH!!

Back to the scarves, groovy baby!!

Back to the slickers and a perfect way to end this rainy post with Kathy and Karen!! (pic is courtesy of Blue Senshi, Thanks!)

Sizzlin' Summertime Sleepwear - Part 9!!

Of course the Summer sun keep the action sizzlin' on the beach, but the Summer nighttime sizzled too with all the hot and groovy sleepwear form the 70s Big Book Catalogs!!

"Shirting the Issue?" Certainly not!  Karen, Barbara, Kathy, Kay and friend are scorching hot in these summertime sleepwear fashions from JCP!

I'm sure most of you gravitated to the cute gals on the right thus missing the gigantic V thing on the left which probably stands for Victory.  Or maybe it's a pointer for clueless hubby?!?

There's nothing Outrageous about these gals. And let's face it, Pia, with that giraffe on her sleeper shirt and the lollipop, is looking Uber hot!!

In addition to Dottie and Kathy we have Cay and Kay side by side. It's a veritable K Club overload!! (Pic is courtesy of Blue Senshi, Thanks!)

So let's check out that inset pic of Kathy.....
Flowers at bedtime?!?  Kathy does not seem impressed.  But we also have .......another inset!!

And inset within an inset!!  Is that like a dream within a dream??  That would describe Kathy perfectly!!

When you speak of 70s catalog sleepwear you're talking Nylon Tricot fabrics baby.  Let's check 'em out!!
Anyone else notice how many of these pics have Mick Lindberg in them?

Kay, Karen, and Peggy, very nice!! Sweet dreams are made of these.

So, of course, the most natural prop for a sleepwear pic is a....is a......ladder??????

Of course, we can;t leave out the classic lingerie.  One could sleep in those too.....
Or maybe not!  Let's face it, Kathy absolutely kills it here!!  So on that note, sweet summertime dreams everyone!!

I..I...Can't Explain This....

K Club Special - Part 35, Karen Bruun - Part 5

Karen Bruun was certainly a fixture i teh Big Book Catalogs for a long, long time.  We've covered her career before in previous K Club Special posts.....

http://kathyloghry.blogspot.com/2013/06/k-club-special-part-2-karen-bruun.html

So let's take a closer look at her career one more time!!

Karen was a fixture in all the Big Book Catalogs of the 70s, including Wards....

And Eaton's.  (1)

Why not another pic from that Eaton's catalog?  This time with Cay Sanderson! (1)

Naturally she was popular in the mainstream catalogs like JCP here (along with Kathy and Kay)

Whoops, another Eaton's pic, this time with Colleen! (1)

Karen was also popular in print ads of the era.  However, this product is kind of bizarre.  You could dye bedspreads and such with it.  That doesn't sound like a good idea to me. And apparently it wasn't.

A pic from late in Karen's career in 1981.  Still looking good!

And on the cover of Simpsons Sears along with Dottie!!

Simply lovely, classic, and elegant.  Karen was the quintessential strawberry blonde!

One last pic of Kathy and Karen. What a pair!  They were the ultimate blonde tag team champions of 70s Big Book catalogs! (1)

Okay, okay, hot on the heels of last week's surprise Thursday post, I decided to make it a regular feature.... a regular Thursday feature of the mostest awesomeness groovy videos from the 60s and 70s that is!!

Yeah, yeah, no Kathy pics, but that's okay!!  Let's Groove This Baby, baby!!

Feel the grove Baby!!

Random Goodness: The Tops!

$

Let's face it, there were a lot of goofy fashion trends in the 70s that are quite forgettable (remember gauchos?)  But there was one iconic fashion statement of the 70s that reversed that non-sexy tendency, and that was what was going on with the Tops!

Halter Tops, Tank Tops, and Tube Tops that is!

Yeah baby!  Ladies, now THAT'S more like it!!

Halters always caused a stir.  I mean, is it like just wearing a bra?  Are they that allowed in school (typically NO!)  Do they drive the guys crazy? (most definitely YES)

Like I said, where they bras or not?  the debate rages on!!

The halters were great, what about the Tube Tops, and Tank Tops???
Halter Tops, Tank Tops, Tube Tops, Oh my!  And one of THE very best things about these tops were that they were often worn with short shorts!  What a winning combination!

Wait, who's that in the inset pic on the right???
Why it's Jayne Modean sporting the Tube Top look!!

Value Halters from Aldens!!

The Tops weren't always worn with shorts - regular length pants worked just fine!  And you've gotta love the tropical shirt over the tube top worn by Karen.

We saw Kathy in a nice sexy halter, but did she ever model the Tube Top??
Oh yeah!!  And just like Karen in the previous pic, the shirt over the top provides a just oh so "peak-a-boo" sexiness!!

Kay, Karen, and Kim gives us Halters, Tanks, and Tubes!!

Colleen and Karen rock the halters!

So were there any other happenings in Tops during the 70s???
Yes,yes there were!  Something called "cape sleeve tops".  I don't remember these, too bad they didn't take off!!

Once again, they could double for a bra or been worn alone - what a great idea. Kathy and Pam show that perfectly!

Why not end on a close up of Kathy!  Oh yeah!

Happy 4th Of July everyone everyone!!

And what better way to celebrate the 4th than with that all American bandanna!!

Karen and Kathy show us the cute way to wear the bandannas!

Speaking of standouts, Karen, Wendy, and Kay are Summer Standouts for sure!!  I'm getting into the holiday spirit already!

Shelley in Wards for summer!!
"Get in the Cool" with Laura and friends.

A Way of Life - that was the Summer of '76 alright!

Kathy and friend shows us the elegant way to celebrate the 4th!

Very, very nice!!

Kay and Kathy were always a Midsummer Night's Dream for sure!???

It's fireworks time!! (I'm talking about the actual fireworks, not the fireworks caused by Christi Brinkley!)

Fashion as Couples Therapy - Part 13, The Jeans Teams!!

$
0

As we have seen in previous posts dear reader is that the 70s were obsessed with couples dressed up in matching His 'n Her attire. Everything from PJs to ski wear to exercise gear had, HAD to been matching.  I mean, after all, how else could a couple proclaim its undying love for each other?!?

Well, that staple fashion statement of Americana was no exception.  I bring for your viewing pleasure: The Jeans Teams!!

And we start off with a DEFINITE fashion faux pas here.  The old "denim on denim" look, a definite no, no.  Except in the 70s when the look was popular for a while (at least I remember it in school.)

Hmmm, both guys seem to be quite forward here, but both ladies seem to not be that interested! Kathy has that closed off body language for sure, and the gal on the right is focused on the camera, not on the poor sap she's with!!  I guess the His 'n Her look isn't creating any chemistry here!

Well Colleen certainly seems content with this guy....wait!!  Those are coronary jeans!!  Does that count???

More corduroy!!  And now the hats too!  What is happening to this post!!  This is supposed to be about jeans!!

Maybe Kathy can pull us out of this corduroy nightmare and get this post back on track!!

ARRRGGGHH!  Triple the couples, triple the corduroy!!  And now with "Filmy-Gauze-Like" Sport shirts.   Sounds.....well....creepy!

Sigh....The corduroy invasion of The Jeans Scenes in couples fashions continues....

Oh dear, now we have matching GREEN corduroy bell bottom jeans.  All I can say is "That's Soooo 70s!"

At this point I have given up all hope of recovering this post.  I surrender to the corduroy!!

Well, well, just when I had given up all hope, a return to sanity - regular jeans...well almost.  Kind of 70s style version of jeans with matching shirts, and you gotta love the wide belts!

White jeans?!?  These cool cats must have been part if the "in" crowd in school for sure!

Still, these jeans are missing something, that Je ne sais pas that makes jeans that All American fashion statement.  Maybe Kathy can help us out here.....

Mama, don't let you're babies grow up to be cowboys....Now that's the American Jean Spirit - Couple's Style!!  Westward Ho!!  These couples are ready to do some boot scootin' tonight!  Well, except for the guy at the lower left.  He seems to have lost his cowgirl...

Since I made a body language comment on the first pic, I'll do the same here.  You gotta love the guy with Kathy: (1) he's facing the camera while she is turned towards him, (2) he's got that charm boy smirk, and (3) most importantly, no mister "hover hand" here!!  You know he's thinking "I'm back in the saddle again..."

Pure Escapism.....

That's So 70s! So You Think You Can Sew - Part 3

$

Yes children, there was a time, long long ago, where people could actually sew their own clothes. Primitive, yes I know....

Certainly one of the odd little sections of the Big Book catalogs was the Sewing section (usually found sandwiched between the ladies clothes and the kid's sections.)  It was a microcosm of all the 70s groovy fashions in one place, like here with Kathy in mod shorts and the Kay twins in Western prints (1)

Shelley Hack in the Sewing section??  Very strange.

Like I said, you could find examples of every thing else in the Sewing section.  Like here with teh smothering robes shown by Kay and Dottie.

 Even the minis were represented!

Kathy and Shelley show off two completely Sew Your Own styles.

Even Colleen could be found in this section.

Jayne Modean too!!

We need a close up on that one.......
Sundresses were always a favorite of the sew your own crowd.

Check out the prints on these fabrics.  Everything from mice to rabbits to flowers.

You could even sew your own faux fur coats!  Check out those wild animal prints.  Yeah Baby!

I close up of Kathy.  I've never seen anyone so happy wit a Sew Your Own coat!

footnotes:

(1) In the lower left corner we have Cay and Kay.  It's like a Cay Kay overload!  Okay (or is that Ocay)!!
